The annual Tony Brown Memorial 10km race was the last race of the AE point score and final winter race of the year.
Conditions presented were incredibly challenging with strong headwinds for the runners. Running a 2 loop 5km course, runners had to face the headwind twice.
Godwin Mugarula finished the winter season as he started it, in winning form. After a controlled first lap, Goddy moved away in the second lap with a strong negative split to take the win in 37.14. Mark Gregory ran a controlled first lap and moved into 2nd place late into the second lap to also record a negative split to finish only 19 seconds behind the winner in 37.33.
Fun Runners Daniel Novak and Michael Parker flew the fun run flag with many of the team heading over to Berlin for the Berlin marathon.
The women’s race saw a close contest over the first lap between Lisa Biffin and Colette Monahan. Lisa pulled away in the second lap, with newly found marathon strength coming through to take the win in 40.10. Colette ran on strongly to record her second fastest 10km in testing conditions finishing in 40.58.
A strong field of 5km runners completed 1 lap, with guest and young gun, 11 year old Leo Ford finishing in 25.13. Not to be outdone by her son Sally Hannah showed she had the fastest 5km in the household for the day taking the 5km title in 21.42.
