ANSW State Cross Country Championships Nowra – Saturday 23rd June 2018
Only a small group of AE runners assembled on the south coast for the tough Nowra challenge. A cool
morning cleared to a beautiful summer’s like day that made it even tougher on the runners.
Cindy executed her instructions perfectly, with the first lap taken as her warm up and the last 2/3rds of
the last lap as her cool down. Remarkably this years run was only 61 seconds slower than last year and
taking everything into consideration was an amazing performance.
Goddy had a solid run and really put his foot down in the last km to try and break the 37 min barrier – so
close. Chamkaur had a nasty cold but still travelled down and took part for the team, sterling effort.
Nero paid the price for a fast start as the hills took their toll on the last lap. Paul ran up into the Open
division so that we could register a team and hung on gamely to finish. A remarkable effort considering
his longest run this year was 7km. The bonus is that the team came away with 3rd place, with two teams
still behind them – way to go men.
Great to see junior runner Ruby Madden making her debut over the 4km course.
