2nd July – Rydalmere
An unfortunate clash of weekends with the Gold Coast Marathon saw team AE down on numbers with many of the athletes heading north to compete on the roads.
However in true AE style the team came together to support each other to ensure we had both a male and female team out in force.
This year both male and female were racing across the same 7.5km distance and the sun was out to greet the runners despite the course being a technically challenging one to navigate.
Rebecca Holmes continued her great season leading home the ladies in 31.33. She was supported by Gill, Heather, Collette and Jane Boyd who returned from across the seas to don the purple and green in support of the team.
Our men’s team was really down in numbers due to both injury and the Gold Coast event, however we managed to field a team of 4 headed home by Antoine and the men’s team pulled off an amazing SILVER which goes to show what teamwork can do.
Special mentions need to go the Heather Bolton who has spent a long time on the sideline from a freak training injury and stormed home in this event to claim an age-group SILVER.

ANSW POINT SCORE UPDATE
An exciting race to the end of the winter pointscore is coming together for both our male and female teams. It is a credit to the club for having the depth and teamwork amongst both men and women to be able to not only compete with much bigger clubs but lead the top of the tables in both open categories.
Our women have been competitive for a few consecutive years, having tight battles with Sydney Uni. With only 3 races to go the ladies hold a very tiny lead on top of the table.
It has been fantastic to see the depth of the men’s team over the past couple of years as numbers had dwindled amongst the boys for a while. However with a strong group of male runners the boys are sitting 2nd on the Open table and with three races to go, who knows what could happen.
