3000m State Champs Wrap up and Treloar Shield Round 4

  • 3000m State Champs

3 members of the club took to the track on Saturday night to represent the club in the NSW State 3000m championships.  Whilst rain loomed it held off to ensure all three athletes only had the wind to contend with.

First to race were Jude Gregory and Gillian Sohun who set off in the women’s C race.  Showing their experience in the race neither ladies were dragged into the 33 second first 200m that was set by a young junior in the race.  Both ladies worked off each other in a great display of team work working their way through the field and coming home strong to smash the 12 minute mark.  Gill finishing in 11:46.60 and Jude hot on her heels in 11:49.77. Gillian has not been under 12mins since 2006 showing that perseverance pays off. Jude’s  performance close to PB also a testament to perseverance as it was only her third race following two years of injury – both performances a welcome return to great running form.

Next on the track was Chamkaur Dhaliwal in the men’s B race which was a fast and fierce contest from the beginning.  Chammy absolutely flew around the track with spectators struggling to have time to cheer him on as he flew through is 7.5 laps.  In a race that wasn’t too far off the pace of the men’s A race, Chammy stormed home to run well clear of the 9 minute mark in 8.57.
