The 2018 edition of the club cross country run provided the first hint of a winter season. A cool morning, with light drizzle greeted the runners and a heavy, soggy grass under foot course would provide the perfect landscape for the race.
After a minute’s silence to pay respect to the fallen and those who have fought in the name of the ANZAC, club President, Peter Good got the runners off to a start.
The course consisted of two races, a 6km with 3 laps of a 2km course and a 2 lap,4km race.
Damian Tancred led home the men over the 4km with a winning time of 17.41 however trailing closely behind were his two son’s and nephew. Josh Tancread and Hayden Szwarc swapped the lead over the 2 laps to finish in a dead heat with a time of 21.30 (both still under 10).
The ladies 4km race went to the ever improving Annaleise Collier. With a negative split second lap, Anna ran away from recently Rona MacNiven who has recently returned post pregnancy, with a very handy time of 18.01.
The Championship race over 6km saw a tight tussle at the front between Godwin Mugarula, Dan Hogg and James Costello. Still on return from injury, Dan held on for as long as possible, with Goddy proving too good in the final lap breaking away to take the club trophy in 21.26.
The ladies championship race was a cautious affair from the gun. Four ladies ran together for 4km (Jennifer Cabasson, Stephanie Crossley, Naomi Tancread and Rebecca Holmes) with Jen and Steph putting in a surge over the final lap to break away.
A return from nearly a 2 year injury spell, Steph went stride for stride sharing the lead with Jen, however Jen is having a fantastic season and was too strong over the final km breaking away to take the win by 20 seconds in a time of 25.45.
Thank you to all the volunteers and time keepers.
